Could Humans Really Run That Fast?

Taking into account the fastest time run by a man over 100m is under 9.7 seconds, then you’re looking at an average speed over the distance of around 40km/h. If you consider that the start is the slowest part of the race, and as athletes near the finish they are gathering further momentum, then the top speed of an athlete might increase to 45km/h, if there name is Usain Bolt. However, a new study has revealed that the human body could travel at up to 40Miles per hour, or a staggering 64km per hour.
The report concluded that if humans could force their muscles to contract at maximum capacity, that given our genetic make-up we could all be doing sub 10 second 100 metre sprints.
